Club 50th Anniversary Event

The club’s 50th anniversay celebrations took place over the weekend of June 18th and 19th.

Saturday saw racing dinghies dressed as pirate ships, highland transport and various other disguises. Members enjoyed fun races such as tug of war and despite the weather great fun was had by all.

On Saturday night we had a barbeque and were entertained by Bev May whose cheerful songs had those who lasted the evening all on the dance floor.

On Sunday there were over twenty boats crammed onto the short startline for the Gold Cup and racing commenced with a fine demonstration of how not to do a port hand flyer by John Putt in his Albacore! The varied boats had some close racing with the event finally being won by Leon Ward in the Roooster 8.1. Colin Singer took the classic boats award with his Enterprise.

Thanks to all who helped to make the weekend such a success.

Members’ Questionnaire

If you haven’t already completed the questionnaire, please do so as we need your input.

This is to help the committee to better understand what changes to the club you would like to see and your sailing aspirations over the next 12 months. It also asks whether you are able to help with the running of the club and your views on the annual membership subscription.

The questionnaire is related to the club development plan that I mentioned in a previous log and I would very much appreciate if you could find the time to complete and return it as soon as possible.
If you have Microsoft Office on your pc you can download the word .doc version, save it and edit it and email it as an attachment – email address in download.

Otherwise you can download the questionnaire in pdf format and print it off amd complete then put in the box in the clubhouse or post it.

Dinghy Park Security

Very occasionally we have trouble with vandals interfering with the boats that are left in the dinghy park. The club has already installed lighting and CCTV is now installed as deterrents. We are also grateful to the water bailiffs for keeping a watch out for unusual or suspicious behaviour in the area.

However it is everyone’s responsibility to ensure that their boat is locked and tied securely to a barrier or other substantial weight. A handful of concrete with chain set in put in a hole in the ground makes a good second securing point. Some members have ingenious methods which are worth noting. Both boat and trolley should be secured as boats have been lifted from locked trolleys.

Road trailers must NEVER be left in the dinghy park.

Thank you in anticipation for your co operation and hopefully we will be left alone by unwanted visitors for the rest of the season.
